Janja delivery story

7 days ago, our little Janja gave birth again to 3 little babies at about 7.30am.

For those who don't know, Janja's first delivery was not a good one. She's not as instinctive as other mother cat. She doesn't have a clue what to do when she gave birth, so 4 kittens did not survive. 3 did not breath as soon as they exit the womb.

I was not in the room while she gave birth cos I was told not to interfere with cats during her delivery as it would distress her. I was told cats are very instinctive, they would naturally know what to do and sometimes you just wake up one morning and see your mother cat happily nursing her new born kittens.

But apparently thats nit the case with my cat. Since I was not in the room,  I didn't know exactly what had happened. I went in at about 3am and saw baby kittens all over my room.

I saw one of them crying next to my dresser, I tried to make my cat to nurse the kitten. But baby didn't seem to suckled on her milk. I brought both mama and baby to vet as soon as the clinic opens at 10. Vet says baby's suckle reflex is just fine, and ask us to keep on trying to help the baby nurse. But they provide us with KMR if she doesn't.
Unfortunately when we bring both home, kitten still don't suckle even we put her on mama's nipple. So we gave her KMR every 2 hours. But I've read a lot of articles saying how important mama's milk on kitten's  first day of life, so as we fear, kitten started to weaken and she's gone the next day.

I was so frustrated.

So when we discovered she got pregnant again, we are trying the best we can to help her out.
We bought her a pet tent, cos last time she don't really fancy the box we provide her to give birth in. So she just walk in our room and beranak all over the floor, even one inside our cupboard.
So to avoid having dead kittens all over the floor we were hoping she could stay in the tent when she delivers.

Then I read that Janja might have trouble during delivery that she also didn't tear her kittens placenta that might cause the kittens to suffocate after birth. So bith me and Chaoi are prepared to help whenever needed.

So on 21st morning, her water broke at 7.30am so I know her time is due. So i out her in the tent. And yes, she had complication when the first baby came out feet first, I don't dare to try to pull it out cos afraid it might make it worst. But after about 15-20minute, the baby came out not breathing. Even after I tear the placenta off its face.
Then Janja was getting restless and wanted to go out from the tent aggressive ly. I let her and she went to the living room and gave birth under the tv cabinet. That one was so big that it got stuck on her for a while I had no option than to help her pull the baby out a little. That one is not breathing either. Probably cos it was stuck for too long. At the time it was already almost 9 something and we just decided to go to the vet and wait there till its open at 10am.
Im not sure how many kitten were still in her tummy and I brought along both earlier kittens so the vet can properly handle them. Luckily the 3rd kitten delivered safely on the vets table and the vet straight away give the kitten to Janja and somehow this time around she instinctively licked and nursed her kitten.

The first 24hours was tiring as we need to make sure the baby is suckling and Janja is taking care of it all the time. But after the 24hrs is passed we could breathe a little knowing that the crucial part is done and hopefully it will survive the first week and beyond and Janja will have another cat companion at home.
